Coco Yoga & Wellness will lead a Breast Health Awareness Soiree in support of the annual events and initiatives organized by Debralee Simons and the Coco Breast Cancer Awareness group. Tickets are $ 25 to raise funds for consultations, mammograms, and ultrasounds for local women. We will repeat the event in Spanish the following evening. Teagan will present a self-care workshop teaching about the lymphatic system's form and function in the body, how it relates to breast health, and demonstrating self-massage techniques to keep the lymphatic system functioning well. She will discuss what factors can slow down the lymphatic system's functioning and how to reboot the system. There are many simple techniques we can all apply for ourselves including body brushing, lymph drainage massage technique, activating reflexology areas, and working with acupressure points.
Miranda will lead a Yoga Class incorporating into the practice the self-massage techniques that Teagan presents in the Self-Care Workshop. The class will begin with a gentle Vinyasa standing sequence and then move into a restorative floor sequence. We will focus on opening the hips and shoulders to allow for better flow of lymph, blood, and prana throughout the body, and will emphasize building back strength to support the breasts. The class will include self-massage techniques including body brushing, activating lymph node centers, and stimulating reflexology and acupressure points and areas to clear out toxins and promote healthy and balanced flows.
To conclude, Teagan will guide a healing circle to create sacred space to recognize how breast cancer has affected our lives, and to recognize the strength and support available in connection with community. In ritual we will honor, express, and release our emotions, and align ourselves with our most radiant experience.
We invite you to wear pink or blue and to attend braless as you are comfortable. It is not necessary to attend all three portions of the event; you may attend as your schedule allows or your interest inspires.
PART 2: Philosophy 10:00 - 11 : 00 Yoga Philosophy 11:00 to 11:30 Satsang
This workshop is open to all levels and split in two sections: Primary and Philosophy. You May choose to attend either section on its own ($20 each) or join Vanessa for the full workshop ($35).
Part 1: Primary The morning Begins with twenty minutes of Sound Meditation - Omkaara chanting the sound of Om, the first mantra in a traditional meditation practice, and Bija Mantras to activate the energy of each Chakra to purify the mind and body. This uplifting sound meditation will calm and center students to prepare to flow through Mysore-Style Primary Series. In Mysore-Style students practice at their own pace the portion of the sequence appropriate to their personal practice. The practice is done peacefully in silence as Vanessa guides the students individually by physical adjustments or verbal instruction. Cards outlining the series are available for reference for those who do not have the sequence fully memorized. This amazing method following a fixed sequence encourages focus on the subtle energy of each posture allowing the prana to flow at ease, as less emphasis goes toward the physical performance of the asana.
There will be an official break 9:30 - 10:00 am; however, not every student will need the full two hours to complete their Mysore-Style practice and may finish Part One earlier than 9:30. Please nourish yourself; you may bring snacks to the studio.
Part 2: Philosophy Vanessa will dedicate the second portion of the morning to Yoga Philosophy. She will delve into subjects including the meaning of the Om symbol and mantra, study of the first three Yoga Sutras, the purpose and meaning of Ashtanga Yoga, and the fundamentals of Ashtanga Yoga practice - Breath, Bandha, Drishti and Vinyasa. The morning will conclude with Satsang as Vanessa answers questions and addresses students' doubts or confusions.
