BODYWORK
In offering Reiki sessions Teagan began to notice that she was guided to specific bodypoints time and again, which inspired her to pursue acupressure, reflexology, and other forms of healing bodywork. Teagan began studies at McKinnon Body Therapy Center in Oakland, California in 2013, where she completed the Eastern Systems Program with Carl Johns and Jason Fry, and the Advanced Acupressure Program with Jason Frye and Kathleen Davis. She fulfilled over 555 hours of bodywork training in Acupressure, Reflexology, Lymph Drainage, Shiatsu, and Swedish Massage, and explored the foundations of Tui Na and Craniosacral Therapy. In 2015 Teagan completed first-level certification in The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy with Eva Sengfelder in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, and in 2018 in Escazu, Costa Rica, she studied with Rose Erin Vaughan to complete first-level certification in Science of Self Acupressure, a system bridging Acupressure with Yoga. In 2019 when the occasion presented for further study with Rose Erin Vaughn in the San Francisco Bay Area, Teagan jumped at the opportunity to visit her hometown and partake in the 50-hour Science of Self Yoga Practice Intensive with Yoga to the People, in Berkeley, California.
YOGA
For Teagan, Yoga embodies a practice in health--self-healing & community-healing--starting with the physical level and naturally progressing through the mental, emotional, and spiritual layers. In 2010 she completed her 200-hr RYT Yoga Teacher Certification in Vinyasa with Angela Boltz & Edgar Ortiz at Montezuma Yoga in Montezuma, Costa Rica, and became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). She opened Impulso Sano Yoga & Wellness Center in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica in 2012, where she taught Yoga, Reiki, and Fire Dance, and practiced Therapeutic Bodywork for three years. In 2013 she completed the PSUPA Stand Up Paddle Yoga Certification with Leigh Claxton in Sausalito, California. Teagan visited Mysore, India in 2016 for one month of intensive Ashtanga Yoga practice with Saraswathi at the Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute, and one month training in Past Life Healing Therapy and Transpersonal Inquiry with B. Naga Kumar at the Mumuksha Centre For Transformation. Teagan returned to Playas del Coco, Costa Rica in July 2018 to launch Coco Yoga and Wellness, initially partnering with Miranda Abbott Wittman at the My Yoga with Miranda studio space. After a fruitful year and a half working together, the partnership dissolved, and Teagan and her husband Kendall Valverde continue with the initiative, focused now on building a beachfront yoga shala. Teagan has continued study in bridging Yoga with Acupressure with Rose Erin Vaughn in Escazu, Costa Rica in 2018, and in Berkeley, California in 2019.

TEAGAN'S Offerings
Vinyasa FlowFlow through progressive yoga sequences and experience the meditation in coordinating each inhalation and exhalation with deliberate movement. Class begins with centering ourselves and bringing awareness to the breath. We warm our bodies with gentle stretching and then move into aerobic standing sequences to build heat and develop strength. Seated sequences follow, moving through stretches to expand flexibility as we cool down for full relaxation. We rest in savasana to seal our bodies with the benefits of the practice, and end with a brief meditation.

Yoga FoundationsYoga Foundations offers an accessible and complete introduction to Vinyasa Yoga for those in the beginning stages of their practice, and invites more advanced students to delve into a slower-paced class to engage deeply with the core pillars of Vinyasa Flow. This class emphasizes moving consciously with the breath, developing body-awareness and breath-awareness, and teaches proper placement to build postures from the foundation up. Instruction cues aim to encourage body alignment for stability and strength, and to train our discipline while also fostering sensitivity to our limits and attuning to our body wisdom and intuition.
|
PrANA YinThis yin yoga class invites us to take our time, moving with care and intention, and to explore the depths and reaches of our postures as we breathe into each pose for one to three minutes. In Sanskrit, Prana denotes our primary energy — our breath, vital force, and consciousness. In taking care to maintain full breath cycles, and in applying dynamic breath rhythms, we invite holding patterns within the body to release. In focusing our awareness and directing our attentions, we create spaciousness in the body allowing for subtle shifts and transformations. In visualizing the body's energetic meridian lines, we establish more harmonious Prana flows and restore the body's natural balance. With the aid of our props — yoga blocks and straps, and massage balls — we are supported and encouraged to meet ourselves where we are, with full presence and loving acceptance.
|
Pranayama for FreedivingThis class offers methods to advance practices in freediving, scuba diving, and meditation, drawing on ancient yogic traditions to cultivate the breath, train the diaphragm for control and mobility, and recalibrate the nervous system. We will begin with gentle stretching and movement leading into coordinated breath and movement kriyas, and Pranayama (breath regulation through specific techniques and exercise.) Our Pranayama practice will include Kapalabhati, Alternating Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, Alternating Bhastrika, and Positive Breathing. We'll finish with Nauli Kriya and self-massage on the diaphragm. Please arrive to class with an empty stomach.

reiki energy healingReiki sessions are excellent for pain-relief, stress-relief, and deep relaxation. The Reiki energy guides an intuitive sequence of gentle hands-on massage specific to the client in the present moment. In activating acupressure points and reflex points, we balance and regulate the body's energy flows, and reboot the lymphatic system, which is essential for healthy immune function and detoxification. Reiki works on all levels--physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual; clients sometimes experience a release of old emotions or memories that have been manifesting as aches or tensions in the body. The deep relaxation these sessions induce allows clients to move from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system, activating the natural healing processes that normally function during deep sleep; many clients sleep through the entire session. Wear comfortable loose clothing, natural fabrics are best, and avoid wearing extra accessories or jewelry. Sessions are 60 minutes of healing work, with some extra time to chat before and afterward.
|
Head, Neck & Ear massageThis half-hour massage focused on the head, neck, and ears is an incredible stress relief. The ears especially hold a key to deep relaxation and healing for many issues because of their unique design. Like the hands and feet, the ears contain zoned reflex points that relate to all the organs and systems of the body, and Chinese medicine practitioners have mapped more than 100 specific acupoints in the ears corresponding to body parts and ailments. This gentle massage involves releasing tensions from the top of the shoulders and neck, a thorough relaxing ear-rub, and soothing holds on the head.
|
QIGong movement & MeditationWe begin with a sequence of standing moving qigong to warm up and encourage our qi to course through all the meridians of the body. Once we've activated our energies and loosened up our joints, we practice foundational Kundalini exercises, which apply specific breathing cycles and engage the body locks to focus our qi and direct it up the spine to the higher chakras. These exercises involve balance--moving forward and back, left and right, up and down--to restore harmony in the brain's hemispheres and align in our center. These fundamental Kundalini practices effect a sense of great stillness and peace, which supports our following practice with more subtle qigong internal meditations.
