Join our Full Moon Circle and partake in Cacao Ritual, Ecstatic Dance, and Sound Bath. Raquel will open the space sharing sacred cacao to center into our hearts, set our intention, and create a coherent container to express ourselves in ecstatic dance, then DJ Datura will set the soundscape for our free-form dance journey. Ecstatic dance offers an opportunity to move intuitively and tap into the natural joy of dance free from any unwanted elements. Once the dance winds down, the evening will close with a relaxing sound bath, a time to settle and recalibrate after whatever we may have moved or processed through our dancing. Please bring water and whatever you need to care for yourself and be comfortable.

Often we may experience a block or disconnect from our voice, feeling shy or unable to express ourselves fully. This workshop aims to liberate the voice as a clear channel for authentic expression, reestablishing the connection with our natural sounds, creativity, and emotional articulations. We will begin with intention, creating a safe and supportive container for exploration together, then start with simple breathing and movement exercises to open the body and energize the diaphragm. Vladi will guide us through vocal activations, applying tones, sounds, and intuitive expressions, then we will build the group resonance with call-and-response series to build confidence and connection. From these playful exercises we will reach a place of freedom with the voice and move into creative improvisation exploring the natural flow of our original sounds. Finally, we will allow our experience to anchor into our being with time for grounding and reflection. Participants may experience a deeper sense of connection with the breath, body, voice, creativity, and self-expression; and may have feelings of freedom, confidence, joy, playfulness, emotional release, or energetic realignment. No prior experience is necessary; please wear comfortable clothes and bring water.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 14TH
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The Handpan, or Hang Drum, a modern, melodic percussion instrument, is played with light touch of the hands and fingers. Known for its resonant, harmonic, and relaxing sound, its note fields are tuned precisely to a specific musical scale. This immersive workshop designed for beginners presents a portal to a unique musical journey. We will dedicate time to technique for precise touch to achieve clean, resonant tones. We will practice essential rhythms with simple fundamental patterns to create hypnotic pulsations. Then we will find our first melody, integrating scale and rhythm to play with confidence a short, graceful song. Many people consider playing and listening to the Handpan a therapeutic experience. The way multiple tones sound simultaneously creates a rich, enveloping sonic texture, both pleasing and complex, which captivates our attention promoting meditative relaxation. Playing the Handpan is an intuitive expression, which allows musicians of all levels to enter easily into states of flow.

Salve Monos Playas Hermosa aims to protect the local Howler Monkey population and conserve its habitat. Salve Monos has dedicated enormous efforts to identify monkey corridors and restore deforested areas to maintain and expand the monkeys' routs with the trees that provide the leaves, fruits, nuts, and flowers that comprise Howlers' diet. Where roads, power cables, and developments have severed the natural corridors, SalveMonos builds crossover bridges to help the monkeys to traverse their territory safely. The numbers of monkey electrocutions and deaths indicate that there is still much work to be done, and Salve Monos hopes to get the whole community involved to protect these beautiful creatures.
Salve Monos strives to educate residents and developers, and with this annual drumming circle event, to animate community involvement, uplifting energies, and inspiring participation, activism, and financial backing in support of this noble cause. Salve Monos Hermosa is a non-profit organization, and Karol Allard has been it's beating heart infusing this project with vital energy for more than a decade. Once more, she is calling on the community to reverberate this heartbeat, so please grab a drum, come have some fun, and be a part of the change.
This drumming circle holds a special place in my heart. I remember when I first heard about the 2013 event and Karol's message to raise the community vibration resonated. I was big into hula hooping and flow arts, and sharing them with the community to encourage a "healthy pulse." At the time I had a collection of 30+ hula hoops, and I offered to bring them to the event to accompany the drumming and to help get people moving and shaking in new ways. It was a blast, and I've been blessed to be involved with the event in subsequent years, bringing out the hoops and fire dancing on the bill in '14, '15, '19, and '20. Although until about a month ago, I hadn't once returned to my fire tools since dancing at the 2020 drumming circle, when Karol invited me back this year I knew this was a nudge in a good direction. I've never felt so underprepared for a performance, but I don't think that feeling ready or at my best is of much importance. If we wait until we're ready we'll never accomplish much; so let's celebrate where we are, let a little momentum move us, and look forward to what tides may change from these little healthy impulses. See you there. ~ Teagan

The first two Sacred Song Circles with Angel and Adriana have been a pure joy to attend, coming together with like-hearted souls and building positive energy within a charged container, singing in English, Spanish, Japanese, Sanskrit, Lakota, and Nahuatl. In our first circle we sang the Mariposa / Butterfly song, appropriate for the new beginning in sacred and transformative circle, and in our second group we developed the felicitous theme with a Nahuatl butterfly song, 'Huey Papalotl.' Please join in the Sacred Song Circle every other Thursday evening 7:00 - 9:00 PM above Cafe Java at El Pueblito Norte in Las Palmas.
